Invest in Kids & Good Behavior Game
In 2008-2010, Invest in Kids participated in a research trial to test the effectiveness of this program. Originally tested in Baltimore, Good Behavior Game has over 20 years of clinical research demonstrating its effectiveness at reducing conduct problems, reducing eventual substance abuse and other mental health conditions, and increasing high school graduation rates. The program, which is administered in first grade classrooms, is actually a game coupled with overall classroom behavior management strategies. The game divides children into teams and each team works together to display on-task behavior, work quietly, and respect one another. Every team can win.
This research trial was completed and, although changes in child behavior trended in a positive direction, overall outcomes were not statistically significant for the 300+ children in Adams County who received the intervention. Therefore, Invest in Kids has decided not to further replicate the program at this time. We continue to await additional results from other trials around the country.
